Mentally and physically we give a lot of ourselves at work and at home. Making sure that we make the most of our leave is important for us as individuals as well as for the places that we work. Try these 4 steps next time that you have a break to make the most of the downtime.
Make sure you take time to reset your mind and body during leave.. Changing our regular routines, connecting with friends, family and nature allowing our minds to switch off and rejuvenate.
Try to be accepting of any thoughts that pop in to your mind during your down time and make time and space for whatever connection you need.
2. Step Away from the Screen
Social media and other digital hooks have been designed by psychologists to hold our attention - to experience FOMO if we aren’t connected to a device. Recognise the addictive trap and consciously step away from all of your devices. This may feel unsettling at first.
Stepping away from your electronics can improve your mood and overall well-being. Spending excessive time scrolling through social media and staring at screens takes away from time you could spend doing things you enjoy.

3. Do Something New
Doing something new sparks our creativity and lifts our mood. Whether it’s something you know you love, or something that you have been meaning to try - make sure you make time for it. Whether on your own or in the company of others - follow your heart, there’s no wrong answer here. Dare to do something out of your comfort zone. Even if it doesn’t go to plan - you will still have a story to share.
4. Do Something Active
We’re almost certainly spent too much time sitting at our laptops. Make time for some regular exercise - try and make it fun. Whether it’s walks at the beach, swimming, tennis, bush walks, yoga or beach cricket - moving our bodies is so important for our mental and physical health.
